The question on everyone’s mind is “why unit1127?” Well, I needed a domain name, and I was flipping through a magazine a few years back and say a story on Unit 1127 at Bell Labs. This particular group in Bell was probably the most successful Computer Science research group in the history of the field, so it was an appealing name. I also liked the way it sounded (I think I was a bit enamored by 37signals).

I wouldn’t pick it again. Free piece of advice: never use numbers in a domain name. It’s permitted by the RFCs, but it’s very confusing for anyone who’s trying to write down your email address.

Fun story: I accidently sent email to my advisor with my unit1127 email address. It turns out he interned there when he was in grad school!
